Biography

Having a competitive sporting background, his passion for optimizing physical performance and health led him to explore various strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation methods while overcoming multiple injuries. Despite finding some temporary relief, he continued to experience pain and dysfunction, driving him to seek lasting solutions.

Playing GAA and soccer, his pursuit to restore his own health led to an academic and professional career in healthcare. He achieved a Certificate in Sports and Food Science, followed by a BSc in Sports Therapy. During this journey, he gained an extensive knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries while working with clubs such as St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Gavin also opened a Sports Massage Clinic, providing care for both the general public and athletes. His experience further expanded at the HSE’s Primary Care Physiotherapy department, where he assisted senior citizens dealing with chronic musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

Recognizing the limitations of traditional methods in resolving chronic pain, Gavin began a journey to find a comprehensive solution that addressed the entire system of the body rather than just its symptoms. In 2020, he discovered Functional Patterns.

Upon research, he found the concept of training in relation to the human gait cycle to be logical. However, he was astonished by the rapid reduction of his pain and enhancement of his athletic function after training with Functional Patterns. He realized that focusing on postural integrity in three-dimensional motion significantly improved his mobility, strength, and coordination, achieving results that previous practices like yoga, strength training, and mobility exercises had not.

Gavin became certified as a Human Biomechanics Specialist this year  and continues to train clients to help them achieve similar results.
