The Evolution of the Human Body

Walking, Running, and Throwing are the movements that were prioritized during the evolution of the human body. Over the past 6 million years, this created our species’ biological blueprint. This blueprint is a crucial lens through which to view the body, and is the key to solving many health related problems.

Are we Disrespecting the Evolutionary Blueprint?

This blueprint has given us a body that is well adapted to deal with its environment. One of the most influential environmental factors we MUST deal with is gravity. When we disrespect the body's design, it results in poor adaptation and a poor relationship with gravity. The importance of this relationship and its influence on the human body is a factor that is often overlooked, or completely ignored with more traditional approaches.

During your initial assessment, we use the findings of your gait cycle analysis and postural analysis to pinpoint where exactly and in what context, your relationship with gravity is causing you issues. Not only do we focus on the fine detail relating to physical movement but on all aspects of your environment as it relates to human health.

For the individual who has the desire to make rapid progress, we offer more focused and concentrated training packages that are individualized, depending totally on the client’s needs.

Our Location

We are located in the small coastal village of Donabate, about 20 kilometers outside Dublin City. Some fantastic features of Donabate include Newbridge Park and a number of beautiful beaches, giving you the opportunity to ground in nature, and experience the benefits of cold therapy offered by the sea during your stay.

The village is located only 10 minutes from Dublin Airport by car, and 25 minutes from Dublin city centre by train. We are happy to recommend local Airbnb’s to those who travel and would like to stay in the area, and will make efforts to secure a reduced rate for you.

Our intensive training packages are a growing option for clients who travel longer distances from all over Ireland, the UK, and even Europe.

Daniel

**6 MONTH POSTURE AND MASS GAINS**

Daniel came to us around 6 months ago having been sidelined from GAA football for close to a season with a Hamstring issue that he was struggling to resolve. We quickly got it sorted for him and have been working on improving his Biomechanics ever since. He's now moving pain free and ready for next season.

Luke

**ACL RECOVERY. GAIT BEFORE/AFTER**

Great progress here from soccer player Luke Browne. He arrived to us last year after tearing his ACL and needing surgery the year before. He completed 6 months "traditional" rehab after the surgery in a well-known clinic but was unhappy with how he was moving following.

**18 MONTHS OF FP RUNNING PROGRESS**

Tom was lucky enough to find Functional Patterns after traditional training practices had left him with a list of injuries including low back pain and shoulder impingement. He had struggled with these issues for over 2 years, using traditional rehab techniques with little to no success. His pelvic stability and general ability to deal with compressive force of gravity have improved massively since learning Functional Patterns and becoming a certified Human Biomechanics Specialist.

Evan

**RUNNING GAINS. NO MORE BACK PAIN! COMPLEX KNEE HISTORY**

Here's a snapshot at Evan's progress over 18 months using Functional Patterns. He's been working hard and is reaping the benefits. Some history. When Evan came in first, he was coming off the back of a rough few years struggling with injuries. Between 2013 and 2019 he had 1 torn ACL and 3 bucket handle meniscus tears! He had gone through traditional rehab each time but was still having problems. More recently, he had back pain that could be quite debilitating after running or GAA training. Playing at a high level of sport requires a lot of training volume and staying injury free in order to progress. Now he's well on the road!

John

**KNEE PAIN RUNNING PROGRESS**

John came to us last year as he had been struggling with knee issues. He is a GAA footballer and would have some pain in both knees following any running. This may have stopped him from getting through the next session or worse, force him to pull up during training. He had explored some traditional options but the knee pain persisted. When he came into us we identified some issues with his running mechanics and went to work correcting them. He worked has hard on and off over the last year and is reaping the benefits. After a few months training, John's knee pain was completely gone and he can now handle the training load required to play at the top level with no issues.
