Gait & Posture Analysis

At Functional Patterns Dublin our initial assessment involves a thorough full body gait and posture assessment. First we use our high quality camera to take photos of your whole body from four angles, front, back, and both sides. These pictures allow us to see any postural imbalances or asymmetries that need to be corrected. Next, we take slow motion videos of you walking and running if it’s possible to do so. By not just focusing on the legs and feet and taking the whole body into account, we can get more information and a more meaningful gait assessment.

Posture & Gait Analyses

While analysis of posture and gait is the main focus of our initial assessment, we do cover a lot more than just this in our 90 minute initial session. We collect a detailed history about your previous injuries and exercise history, get information about what your routine is currently, and discuss what your goals are moving forward. We cover topics like sleep, nutrition and stress management in order to make sure you are set up to maximise the results you can get with your Functional Patterns training.

Once both our analysis and information collecting has been completed, we move out to our training space to begin exercising. We start by introducing you to self myofascial release techniques that hydrate your muscles and fascia, priming your body for better integration. These are specific to areas of the body that have been flagged as problematic during our analysis, and are followed by some corrective exercises that can help you understand the fundamentals of good posture. All exercises will be recorded and sent to you after the session for reference, with some instructions on how to best utilise them.
