Knee Pain Case Study: Patellar Tendentious Rehab

Knee Pain Case Study: Patellar Tendentious Rehab

John came to us for some help with a knee issue he was having. He is a GAA footballer and would have some pain in both knees following any running. This may have stopped him from getting through the next session or worse, forced him to pull up during training. He had explored some traditional options but the knee pain persisted.

When he came into us we identified some issues with his running mechanics and went to work correcting them. He worked hard with us and by himself for over 6 months. After a few months training, John’s knee pain was completely gone and he could handle the training load required to play at the top level of GAA with no issues.

Before

  • Pelvic and lumbar instability
  • Lack of lateral movement in upper body
  • Limited arm integration
  • Knee valgus on landing
  • Knee pain during and after running

After

  • More elastic recoil
  • Better arm drive
  • Improved knee position on landing
  • Bigger stride and increased speed
  • No knee pain

Summary

John is a young GAA player who came to us with knee pain in both legs. He had been to a number of therapists but still couldn’t train more than once a week due to debilitating knee pain after training. He trained with us for 6 months and now can play and train as much as he wants.
